84theater
84theater is a young theater group established in 2006 in Tehran. The group has concentrated on performing plays written by foreign and Iranian playwrights including Chekhov, Beckett, Pinter, Mamet, and numerous writers from any corner of the world. The group has also had many workshops in Tai Chi Chowan (Chinese martial art), Neutral Mask and Sound Training. Most members of the group are students or graduated from Cinema and Theater College, University of Art, in Tehran. The group is founded by Ali Akbar Alizad (a lecturer in Cinema and Theater College) as the main director and Reza Soroor as the Writer/dramaturge. The texts often select by their socio-political themes. They adapt by group dramaturge and structurally change during rehearsals.
Application Activity
84theater went to meet another theater group named Tehran-to witch used to work on the base of Augusto Boal’s Forum Theater. But the methods of two groups were different: basically 84Theater has focused on performance and survey on varied plays and to hold workshops on acting training, while To-Tehran intended to introduce theater to ordinary people out of the theater halls on the basis of Boal’s Forum Theater. In fact, though both groups admired socio/political theater but they were different in aims and ways. To-Tehran was to perform one of its works for our members and use the result of our collaboration as Audience/Actor.
